“Take your mark” buzzed the deep male voice on the handheld speaker. I slowly and carefully stepped onto the thick plastic block. It had a sandpapery texture on the top so you wouldn’t slip into the sapphire blue water and get a false start. There was a little lip on the block for you to grab and hook your fingers over. So there I stood with my knuckles turning white gripping the lip. There I stood bending forward my right foot in front of the left. My feet were a hand width apart. Beep!!! We dove into the water arking our backs into the shape of a banana. Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. My legs were kicking furiously making snow white bubbles. Five strokes ten strokes twenty strokes twentyfive strokes…..DONE!!!
